A cobra, believed to be wild and of the Philippine variety, assumes the attack position as it sees Citom Chairman Jack Jakosalem through its glass cage. This cobra today attacked Ronaldo Aventurado, an employee of the Cebu City Zoo. Aventurado thought it was just an ordinary snake and decided to pick it up after he spotted it inside the zoo premises. Only after he grabbed it and it bit him did he realize that he was dealing with a cobra. In 30 minutes, he started feeling the effects of the cobra’s neurotoxins: difficulty breathing and moving. He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but it was Jakosalem, through his contacts in Cagayan de Oro City, who found an anti-venom for Aventurado. Since there hasn’t been a case like this in Cebu for several years, there is no anti-venom available here. It had to be shipped here. Aventurado is now recovering in the hospital. The snake is said to be more than five feet in length.
