The newly-formed Movement for Progressive Consolacion (MPC) beat all other political parties in Cebu to holding the first convention this election season. About 5,000 MPC leaders, with former Consolacion mayor Avelino Gungob at the helm, took their oath to become members of the One Cebu Party as well. They promptly declared their support for the senatorial bid of Gov. Gwen Garcia and endorsed Rep. Pablo John Garcia as their candidate for governor next year. They signified their alliance by the traditional raising of hands (top photo). Organizers estimate that about 7,000 people attended MPC convention this noon (photo above) held at the gym of the Consolacion National High School. Gungob (sixth from right in the top photo) joins forces with at least three other opposition forces in Consolacion: former mayor Leo Go (leftmost in top photo), former vice mayor Ember Alinsug (third from right) and former councilor Arnulfo “Taboy” Abinales (second from right). Gungob twice beat incumbent Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado. She won in 2010 when Gungob could no longer run for mayor.
