Cebu Stinks!

Cebu Stinks, yes. And of course I am going to tell you why I think so. Cebu stinks because so many guys probably never heard of a toilet. You can see them on nearly every corner, day and night. Pissing on the street. There I said it. People in Cebu are peeing right in front of everybody’s eyes.

No matter where they are, if they feel the bladder is pressured, they release themselves. If a little boy cant hold it and he sneaks behind a building nobody will say a word. But grown up guys? Right in the middle of Cebu? Not even trying to hide? Give me a break. There is not one day where you wont spot an outside-pisser. Yes, outside-pisser, that’s what I call them now. Guys, this is disgusting. It stinks and it does not look good. And the smell on your hands afterward since you don’t have a chance to wash your hands?

cebu-stinks-cebuinformerI am a guy too, but I know how to use a toilet. And I would feel so embarrassed to do it outside in front of everybody’s eyes. How do you explain this to your children? They see the guys standing on the roadside and ask questions. Sometimes if you’re walking along the road you even have to pass by one of them, trying to avoid to step into the river of… (you know what I mean).

I know, there are no public toilets to be found in Cebu and going to a mall is not always possible once you feel the urge to pee. But this is no excuse. With Cebu’s politicians spending the money rather on some fancy lamps and water-filled land-plots, there wont be any public toilets so soon. So you have to find another way to overcome your bad habit, the peeing outside.

Now you might say these guys are so poor they have no home, so they dont really have a choice. Hmm? The taxi-driver who gets out of his cab to release his bladder? The traffic – Tanod who makes a short break and thinks the corner on his junction is just fine for a pee-job? Or the well dressed guy with the bags full of presents for his loved ones who stops on the way home to make his mark? I have seen all of them and you can too. Open your eyes and try to close your nose. You will spot them, the outside-pissers…

So if you ever wonder why it stinks in Cebu, now you know one reason. Merry Christmas…

I reckon it's not a Cebuano's or Filipino's culture to pee everywhere if you cant hardly find a water closet (WC) or a restroom or a shower room or a comfort room(CR). Imagine yourself, whatever your nationalities are, if your bladder is almost bursting especially when you are suffering from overflow incontinence.Or even in a normal full bladder. Where do you spill that excretions? directly to your undies?or to you pants?

And I leave my garbage on the street because I cant find a trash can. I don't clean my house because I don't find the cleaning materials needed. I'll spit from the jeepney because there is no spit-container in it. I drop the used tissue on the street because the garbage bin is so far away….

As long as we find an excuse for every bad behavior then nothing will ever change Ike. Other countries have similar conditions yet people there know how to behave!!! How come?

By the way, just yesterday I did see a jeepney driver pissing on his own cars front grill, sooooo disgusting :'(

Some of us pinoys just behave like pigs, and as long as we tolerate this we will be a filthy and dirty third world country – FACT!!!

  2. dongyan says:

instead keep on fighting and criticizing each politicians what if government will make a move to solve this problem and soon this will really a big problem in Cebu. It's not also good for our visitors to see this kind of situation. Visitors consider that Cebu is beautiful and livable city for them but it seems sanitaTion isn't proper.. Moreover spending money such as lamp post, why should we not spend it for improving or adding public toilet??

  3. dongyan says:

actually don't generalize it, maybe this is true in the city perhaps it's government problem not serving the Cebuano people as well.

  4. jpmatrix says:

I would go on to say that its not just a problem in Cebu, but all over the country. I lived in Malate for 2 years and there was a strong smell of piss everywhere you went. Perhaps there is a lack of public toilets. I also resided in Legaspi, Daraga for 2 years and noticed alot of men pissing in public. Shame really cause Bicolanos and filipino in general have a generous nature, good sense of humour and their hospitality towards foriegners like my self are unbounded.

If you pissed in public in the UK you would get hit with an £80 fine (6500pesos).

  5. kesha says:

well he has a point though!!it serve as an eye opener to us,not only to us but also to all public official….it just a matter of respect and desceplined…

  6. anne says:

hey peeing at any corner is not just  a cebuano habit..u can also see that in manila, and other cities in the country..so i guess the problem is not because cebuano men pee anywhere, it' what Filipinos do in the country. PEEace ya'all..

  7. well i respect your freedom of expression.but Cebu is so far one of the most livable cities ive ever known.so please stop criticizing.it hurts me…i just love cebu so much okay?peace everyone!

  8. david says:

jensbehnisch, if you dont like the smell of pee as you put it, why do you go there then, sounds to me your a winger, and a complete ass hole to go with it. there is lots toilets in cebu, and any one who say there is not, needs glasses, i find them. and i dont se people pee in the street there in cebu, so this ass hole jens, i se them in other small towns, but i not se in cebu. unless its the slum places, perhaps thats were this guy jens goes,

    • David – or Ms. Joy – your real name I suppose. Don't you even have the guts to use your real name here? Shame on you:-(
But you are actually right. I don't like the smell of pee, who does? Do you? I don't understand why this makes me an asshole though, but maybe that is just another spelling mistake from you as you have so many of them ;)
      What is wrong with you???

  9. david says:

best thing the ph goverment can do to jens behnish, take him to air port, kick him out of the philippines

  10. doni says:

sorry to say it's not only the cebuanos but i've seen it everywhere in the Philippines. i was on vacation in Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and i noticed that guys do it there too…

  11. paul t says:

I think thats part of the cebuano culture..when youre in cebu, do what the cebuanos do. Piss in the corner and find a new friend thru a firm handshake. You cant expect politicos in cebu will do something about it..cos all they do is fight against each other :(

  12. jay says:

a suitable portable urinal or public toilet must be installed for public use is the right solution for the problem. . .

  13. ellen says:

maybe, cebu should ask bayani fernando for tips on how to set up those pink urinals. there were so many criticisms then on those pink urinals but people have realized its value. the mere fact that men
use them when they relieve themselves is proof enough of its existence. urinals should be set up in key areas of the cebu metropolis so men would have no reason on just how to relieve themselves

  14. gian says:

sad but true..it is so sad the cebuanos show this much ignorance in life i am a cebuano myself and i abhor people who are like that

  15. …ever wondered how the "Balili lot" got so wet?
Maybe the government can install some urinals on those fancy lamps they bought. At least one good use then…=/
