Philippines: New Apartment & Moving Expenses Cebu City

This video is a quick tour of my new apartment here in Cebu City and some of the moving costs involved. The biggest cost of course was the first and last months rent plus security deposit. I also included the prices of some furniture and various items. If anyone has any questions feel free to leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer 🙂

  1. Chris: Furniture and bedding seemed expensive. Especially the sofas. Almost US $. But no tax right? At least it fits. But where's your poppa san chair? 😉 Bill

  9. In our home there in Cebu, we have no control over the water temperature of the shower. There are times when the water is hot especially around noon to 5pm then it gets cooler. lol But I just used to take a bath in our backyard where we have our water pump.

  11. Are you planing to stay long in this appartment because you spent a lot for moving and furniture? I heard you think about moving to dipolog. Moving there with bed, sofa etc. would be difficult. Do you have unlimited internet with 1300peso a month? I know from before that unlimited doesnt mean same speed unlimited. You watch a lot of youtube videos that takes a lot of data so you need really unlimited internet. I wonder if the 200peso for 3 days was always enough for your internet usage?

  13. Chris, If your DSL speed is fast enough you can use KODI to watch almost anything. You can search youtube for help on installing KODI to various devices. Then search youtube for best KODI addons for 2018. It will show you how to install the addons and get started on watching almost whatever you want. You can also get those Chinese android TV boxes that you can hook up to your TV using HDMI and will allow you install KODI. The TV boxes now come with 2 GB RAM/16 GB ROM which gives you reasonable performance. Reviews say 4 GB RAM/32 GB ROM is overkill. They can be had for under $50 here in the U.S. to give you an idea of the pricing.

  14. Obviously you have more space, and I'm sure that is refreshing… We have Globe as well for internet at 1500php per month. We have 2 desktops, and about 3 wifi devices, and the service is very adequate for the month… We like it… Good move for you…

  15. Hey Chris, thanks for making these videos. I’ve been watching for a while now, and you’ve been helpful in my process of making the move to PH/SEA. I’ve been in Vietnam for the last 5 months. I’m flying into Cebu in one week. Overall expenses has been one of the biggest issues I’ve had with making the move. Vietnam is hard to beat when it comes to cost of living, quality of life (what you get for $260 rent), and safety. PH doesn’t really seem to be that much cheaper than what I was used to paying in the US.

The language barrier is the only thing that i can’t deal with here in VN, so I’m coming to Cebu. But I’m not sure how long I’ll stay.

  22. hello Chris, only ask for deposit and the first, month never the last month since i rent 3 of my houses. i was told i should do the three as you mention here. but some people cannot afford to put down a huge amount of money. i had a foreigner tenant stayed for about a year. he was happy to pay such a cheap rent 5k pesos a month only. he was there to get his fiance and the house has 2 bedroom separate shower and separate toilet and it is bigger than your new apartment. let me know if you ever plan to visit Carcar perhaps you can drive by and take a glance. thank you and good day Chris and your family.

  23. You Glob Pldt has unlimited. +5mbps Why is it so low. You live in the city. I use Pldt I do not have cable in my room I just stream what ever I want to watch. Hook your pc or laptop to the tv and you have a nice big monitor. Like me I have a 50" monitor. The expense seemed a little high. I just got a mattress and I didn't even pay ₱3000 for a queen. I don't know maybe everything is more in Cebu. I just visit my Brother in law every now and then and I can not wait to get home it is crazy over there.

  24. I live just behind you Chris and I pay P1599 unlimited internet with Sky Broadband. Speed is 8mbs. You can pay more for higher speed. That price also included the cable TV channels but like you said you can find everything on the net so I don't bother with a TV. Globe is P1699 for unlimited at 5mbs but not sure if it's FIBER. They are advertising Fiber now.

  30. Although that apartment is still small, its a big improvement from your last one, probably 3 times bigger. I can't imagine you guys lasted several years in your old apartment. I'm glad everybody will kinda have their own space in the new apartment. That sofa set makes a lot of difference in having your apartment look decent. Where do you park your car? Do you need to pay extra for parking? Cheers and God Bless Bro!

  35. The couch near the door needs a bit more space so someone can sit at the far right hand side. Looks a bit congested in there unless you didn't pack away all the stuff. For some reasons I notice in videos the rooms tend to be narrow in the Philippines like the bathroom. and some bedrooms. Also I notice the mattresses there tend to be slim..at one time during the era of Marcos Filipinos used to be slim people but with the advent of American fast food they are gaining on us Americans in gird and might no longer be able to have a good nights' sleep on those this mattresses. I think instead of all the fast food joints they might be better off with Sleepy's franchises or Serta.

  36. On your opening clip, it never fails to amaze me how easy it is to grow vegetation in the Tropics. I see the bananas growing between the street and the apartment building. Nice video BTW
